The César Chávez express toll road has been used over 105,000 times by people who haven’t paid their toll fees, resulting in about $96,000 in unpaid fees. Those people are now going to face legal action. Drivers who haven’t paid will be sent “last chance" notices before being taken to court.

Your license plate is recorded if you don’t have a tag, and you are mailed a bill for $1.80 if you don’t have an electronic tag. A $15 fine is issued after 30 days of non-payment, another $15 fine is issued 30 days after that, and after 60 days of non-payment, a $30 collection fee is also assessed.

After 180 days, you can be charged with a misdemeanor, charged municipal court fees, and another $250 on top of that. You’ll be notified by mail about any legal action taken against you for non-payment of toll fees.
