The City of El Paso's four themed water parks don’t officially open until the Memorial Day weekend, but if you've lived here long enough than you know we're going to be needing some relief from the heat before then.

Well, good news: you won’t have to brave the hot temperatures until the end of the month. Chapoteo Water Park will be holding a special Cinco de Mayo Kermes on seis de Mayo, Saturday, May 6.

Here’s what you need to know about the planned “soft opening” at the Lower Valley water park.

El Paso Water Parks

While all 4 regional water parks have the same basic water features, each has its own unique theme and signature feature.

Chapoteo, for example, is the fiesta-themed aquatic facility. It features a leisure pool, lap pool, kiddie pool, water slides, water playground, lazy river, and climbing wall, as well as cabanas and a cafe.

Although it's a "Cinco de Mayo Kermes," the celebration will take place the following day Saturday, May 6.

The event will include local vendors and food trucks, and feature live performances from Tribes, the “Rock Mariachi Band” from El Paso, and Ballet Folklorico Paso Del Norte.

From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., attendees can also cool off in the Chalupa Springs pool, zoom down the Calavera Plunge, and have an all-around pool splashing good time.

One-day tickets for the special preview event will be $15 plus taxes and fees and can be purchased online in advance or in-person at the water park.

All four El Paso Water Parks will open daily starting Saturday, May 27, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. through the end of July. After that, the parks will only be open Saturdays and Sundays through Labor Day weekend.
