Trump Rally to Affect El Paso Zoo, Schools, Bridge of Americas
The El Paso Zoo is among a handful of city facilities that will be closed today (Monday, Feb. 11) because of President Donald Trump’s visit.
Numerous EPISD campuses near the El Paso County Coliseum, the site of the president’s rally, will be affected as well. Classes have not been cancelled, instead, the schools will be on an early release schedule.
Here is the list of what will be closed for the day or affected in some way due to the large crowds anticipated and potential traffic issues, per various officials.
City of El Paso
• El Paso Zoo
The zoo will return to normal operations the following day, Tuesday, Feb. 12.
• City Parks and Recreation Department
Acosta Sports Center, 4321 Delta Drive, and the Hilos de Plata Senior Center, 4451 Delta Drive, will close at 1 p.m.
• El Paso Municipal Court
Municipal Courts 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 will reset after 11 a.m.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection
CBP officials said the Bridge of the Americas cargo facility will close at noon Monday, and encouraged motorists who usually use that port of entry to consider crossing over via one of the other bridges as heavier than usual traffic congestion is expected at the Bridge of the Americas.
El Paso Independent School District
The president’s visit will mean a school day length change and the cancellation of after school activities at 13 South-Central EPISD campuses in and around the El Paso County Coliseum. Click HERE for the specific schools and more details.
Gates at the El Paso County Coliseum, located at 4100 E. Paisano across from the El Paso Zoo, will open at 3 p.m. The rally itself is scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m. You need to have a printed or mobile ticket to get into the event.
