The Tote, as we cool kids call it, was born as El Taco Tote in Ciudad Juarez in the late 80s and expanded into El Paso in 1996 with its first location on N. Mesa near the University of Texas at El Paso.

As its popularity grew, so did the number of locations. Now going by Tacotote, it currently has six locations in town as well as restaurants in San Antonio and Laredo Texas, Phoenix and Tucson Arizona, Albuquerque New Mexico, and in Mexico including Juarez.

Per the documents, the restaurant will be going up at 12221 Eastlake in the newly minted Eastlake Commons open-air retail mall. Eastlake Commons is across the street from Eastlake Marketplace and near the Amazon Fulfillment Center.

A Dutch Bros Coffee recently opened there, and online site plans show a McAlister’s Deli, Applebees, Circle K, Mister Car Wash, Peter Piper Pizza, and Chopsticks as future tenants.

Construction on the new Tacotote, according to the paperwork, is scheduled to begin this year with a target completion date of spring or summer 2023.
