Newly elected city rep Alexsandra Annello and her new husband Alberto Halpern were involved in a serious crash yesterday near Marfa.

Halpern works for El Paso County Commissioner David Stout and said the the 29-year-old is in critical but stable condition at University Medical Center. Stout said Halpern injuries include broken legs and pelvis, a broken back, and bleeding in his brain.

Law enforcement officials say Annello, Halpern, and two other passengers were coming back to El Paso around midnight after Annello and Halpern’s wedding in Fort Stockton when a vehicle driving the wrong way hit their car head-on about 8 miles east of Marfa. Halpern reportedly tried to miss the vehicle and took the brunt of the crash.

The driver of the wrong way car died at the scene.

Annello wasn’t in town when she won her runoff election on Saturday. The couple told ABC-7 they had picked the day long before they knew when the runofff election would be held.

Our prayers are with Alexsandra and Alberto for his full recovery.
