A new school year is upon us in the Borderland. Some have already started the semester, and others have at least one more week of summer vacation.

I've always enjoyed the fall semester better than the spring semester. As the months go by, autumn begins and the air gets a little bit cooler (even for El Paso) and that can only mean one thing: spooky season!

While Halloween is still a few months away, it's never too early for some ghost stories! And with the schools in the Borderland, the ghost stories pile up!

Now, obviously, we all know that El Paso High School is totally haunted, right?

El Paso High School is the subject of many scary stories in town. In this town full of rich history, it's not surprising that La High has made it to the list of "Most Haunted Places in Texas," and "Most Haunted High Schools of America."

But, there are plenty of other schools in the Borderland that also have their own ghost stories other than La High. Here are four more schools that are haunted.

Loretto is said to be haunted- especially in that bell tower where it is said that a nun died in the tower- but no one knows why. Rumors say it was a suicide and others say it was a murder over an unplanned pregnancy.

The former elementary school building, built in 1922, now is host to EPISD's College, Career, Technology Academy, or CCTA school. It is also host to some paranormal activity. According to Mysteries of our Histories: and the Ghosts that Follow, the fourth grade hallway in particular is the center of local lore that involves a young African-American girl who suffered a terrible accident and is said to roam the halls forever.

According to unexplainable.net, the ghost of a man can be seen roaming about the halls; he appears with blood-filled gauze on his head and one of his arms is also missing. Apparently, during one of the wars, this site served as a hospital for war veterans and some never left.

Ysleta High School

Unlike El Paso high, Ysleta actually hosts some ghost tours. On the tour, you're on the hunt for the former cheerleader who took her life in the girl's restroom. As well as a janitor who still roams the halls.

Have a good school year, and if you go to any of these schools, well, send in your ghost stories!
