There's no better time to watch horror movies than during October. We all love watching our favorite classic slasher movie, psychological thriller, or crime documentary during this time over year. But for 2021, there's another horror film we'll have a chance to watch & it's homegrown too...

Dakota Thomas was born back in 1991, he was raised in El Paso & has been a horror movie fan since he saw "Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday" when he was 3 years old. He's been making films for over 10 years specializing in the horror genres like "One Last Scare" (2018) & "Voyeur" (2017).

His new film is NOT a short film. It's his first full length film starring Elizabeth Elise Gonzalez, Hector Dez, Angel Herrera, Raquel Gomez and Ryan Rox called "Bedridden".

I was very fortunate enough to ask Dakota Thomas himself what the movie is about: "Bedridden tells the story of Teri, a weary widow, facing the painful task of rebuilding her life as a single mother, following a traumatic encounter with an armed assailant. When her worst fears seemingly come true, Teri finds herself bedridden and trapped in a cat and mouse game of life and death".

The movie trailer for Bedridden was released back in July on Dakota's YouTube channel. If you haven't seen it, here it is.

In my conversation with Dakota, he further explained the struggles of filming during the pandemic but also the triumphs of completing the film:

"The pandemic is the reason I decided to make the film.  All of our lives were put on pause for a year and in that time I just made the decision that if I was ever going to get the chance to make a feature film, it was now. I had to take the opportunity of being in lockdown to write and create. We tried to keep our set a safe spot with everyone wearing masks and socially distancing, when possibleOne of the bigger struggles when it comes to making a feature film is, how do you finance it? We decided to do an Indiegogo campaign and ended up raising almost $6,000. 95% of that money came from right here in El Paso, which was such a humbling experience... Another struggle was scheduling...There were times when we were only able to film once a week, but we just had to keep pushing until it was done. I am forever indebted to my cast and crew, because they always showed up and gave everything they had. "

It's clear Dakota has a true love & passion for filming but when I was asked what was the most significant part of the making of Bedridden, it was clear that representing the El Paso community was the most important part:

"From the beginning it was important to me that this film really promote the idea that representation matters. This film not only represents our hometown, in that it features an all El Paso cast and crew, but beyond that we are also representing the Hispanic community. Our lead is a strong Hispanic female. We have female producers and a female Co-Director of Photography. We also have members of the cast and crew that represents the LGBTQIA+ community, including myself. Reaching out to a local band (Epitaph Romance) was just another step in ensuring that El Paso was as represented as possible. I wanted this to truly be a homegrown movie. I wanted to support the people in my own backyard."

Bedridden was actually shown at this year's El Paso Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award. But for everyone who DIDN'T have a chance to see it, will have a chance on October 30th, 7pm, at the El Paso Premiere Cinemas at Bassett Place.

SPOOKY GOOD: 2019 KLAQ Halloween Parade

For 2019, KLAQ's Halloween parade brought out Tony the Tiger to be the Grand Marshal. As for the Buzz Adams Morning Show, they dressed up and drove around as The Wizard of Oz but zombie style. Thank you to everyone who came out to the parade and make it a spooky good time.
