The El Paso Museum of Art is thrilled to announce the first ever presentation of the Papel Chicano Dos: Works on Paper from the private collection of Cheech Marin.

The actor, comedian and Chicano art lover, Cheech Marin,  will be lending the El Paso Musuem of Art over 60 art pieces from his private collection to be on display now through June 17, 2018.

Marin’s on loan collection includes works defining the Chicano identity, the Chicano Revolution and today’s Chicano art. Papel Chicano Dos: Works on Paper features works from Frank Romero, Carlos Almaraz, Glugio “Gronk” Nicandro, Benito Huerta, Diane Gamboa, Sonia Romero, and Sonia Fe. The exhibit will also include works by local El Paso teacher and artist Gaspar Enriquez, whose work is featured at the El Paso Museum of Art as well as Southwest University Park.

The El Paso Museum of Art invites everyone to celebrate Chicano art by visiting the exhibit and by also participating in their upcoming free educational programs open to the public coming up in March.

Saturday, March 3: Papel Chicano Celebration

  • 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. – Includes art-making activities, food trucks, a display of classic low-rider cars, and live music and vinyl sessions by Mother of Pearl Vinyl.

Saturday, March 31: Baikas! Bicycle Tour*

  • 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. – Attendees can join local Chicano artist and muralist Jesus “Cimi” Alvarado for a guided bicycle tour of El Segundo Barrio’s murals. Bring your own bicycle or rent one through the SunCycle Bike Share Program in downtown El Paso and don’t forget the sunscreen and a bottle of water.
