East El Paso Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Opens Friday
East and Far East El Paso, rejoice. Your days of roadtrippin’ to the west side for dinner and a movie at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Montecillo are over.
As 93.1 KISS-FM previously reported, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema East will officially open on Wednesday, March 31, just in time for the highly-anticipated release of Godzilla vs. Kong.
Prior to the grand opening, the theater will open its doors to the public beginning Friday, March 26 in order to train staff. During the soft opening, classic films including Selena, Batman, and a twentieth-anniversary screening of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings will be featured.
The new complex, located at 12351 Pellicano Dr. at the intersection of Pellicano Drive and Joe Battle Blvd., is a 10-screen theater featuring all luxury recliners.
One of those theaters will be tricked out with a 60-foot high screen and Atmos surround sound. I don't know what that is, but it sounds like the next superhero movie is going to loud as ****.
Like its counterpart on the west side, Drafthouse East will offer a full-service dinner menu served by stealthy “ninja” food servers, as well as a bar and craft beer selections. And like when watching a flick at its sister theater, moviegoers will have to adhere to its strict text-talk-die policy.
Oh, and how’s this for cool: the bar and lobby area highlights luchadores in a Lucha Libre theme with Mexican wrestler posters, masks, and artwork prominently featured on its walls.
The new Alamo Drafthouse location is part of the nearly 30-acre Monteverde development that, once completed, will include retail stores and restaurants.
