Blue Moon Theater in Central El Paso Hosting Rocky Horror Picture Show Costume Contest, Showing Movie
You don't have to be a sweet transvestite from Transexual, Transylvania to do The Time Warp Again, but you can certainly dress as one for the Blue Moon Theater Rocky Horror Costume Party.
The Central El Paso outdoor cinema will be hosting a special showing of the The Rocky Horror Picture Show in late September, and as is customary at any screening of the cult classic, dressing up as Janet, Brad, Magenta or Dr. Frank N Furter isn't just welcomed, it's highly encouraged.
The Blue Moon Theater
The Blue Moon Theater sits next to the mobster-themed and super-haunted Monteleone's Ristorante at 512 San Marcial St., and is part of Monteleone’s family of businesses located within the same block in the 5 Points area.
The classic movie lover’s hidden gem, also known as the Blue Moon Drive-In, is like a backyard, open-air theater designed to resemble an old-fashioned drive-in, but isn’t really a drive-in.
The concept features seating that looks like the back end of a car so you can feel like you’re sitting inside your vehicle at the drive-in, vintage drive-in speakers, and an eclectic collection of Hollywood memorabilia scattered about – even in the bathrooms.
Old school sci-fi and horror movies is the bulk of its programming.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
The musical parody salute to sci-fi, horror, B-movies, and rock music stars Tim Curry, Barry Bostwick, Susan Sarandon, and singer Meat Loaf.
Initially considered a flop when it was released in 1975, RHPS holds the record for the longest theatrical run, never having been out of some form of limited release since its 1975 premiere.
In 2005, it was deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.
Here's When You Can Do the Time Warp Again
The Rocky Horror Picture Show Costume Party is set for Saturday, September 24, after a one-time showing of the fan-favorite flick.
Attendees will receive a prop bag to enhance the movie’s sing-along, quote-along experience. The RHPS outfit costume contest will take place after the screening.
Tickets are $20, and seating is limited. Reservations are needed and can be made HERE.
