The Zapp Band is bringing its classic soul and funk groove to El Paso and the Abraham Chavez Theater Saturday, November 30. Tickets are on sale now at the Plaza Theater Box Office and Ticketmaster outlets.

Originally from Dayton, OH, Zapp reached its zenith in 1982 with the release of "Dance Floor: Part 1" which reached the top spot on the Billboard R&B charts; but the group's music consistently charted throughout the decade with songs like "I Can Make You Dance" and "Heartbreaker".

One of the founding members, the late Roger Troutman, was among the first to use the "voice box" effect in Zapp's music and the band is credited with being an influence for much of the west coast's hip-hop scene with its distinctive hand-clap drum beats.

Roger Troutman's brothers, Larry and Terry Troutman, lead the band today and will be in El Paso with another founding member, Gregory Jackson.

Doors will open at 7 p.m. for a great weekend of classic soul favorites and fun. Check out The Zapp Band classic, "More Bounce to the Ounce".
