Singer David Bowie was born David Robert Jones. In the mid-60's there were 2 Davy Jones's. Himself, and  a young singer who was becoming very popular as the lead singer of  "The Monkees". To avoid confusion,  David Bowie re-named himself after the 19th century american frontiersman Jim Bowie, who popularised the Bowie knife. The other Davy Jones died today of a heart attack at the age of 66...!!
