ESPN.com is reporting that this week's injury to Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will sideline the starter for the next 6-10 weeks.

An MRI allegedly showed a broken bone in Romo's back after Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril fell on him Thursday night as he was scrambling out of the pocket. The injury came in the third play of the game.

Yet, at the same time, the Cowboys are definitely down-playing the injury, according to ESPN.

Coach Jason Garrett, who announced the injury on a conference call Saturday, said the injury would not cost Romo the season and he declined to rule out the quarterback for the regular-season opener against the New York Giants on Sept. 11.

That kinda sounds like crazy talk, given Romo's history of back injuries and surgeries. But, whatever man -- everyone has to do what they have to do, I guess. At the same time, sources are also telling ESPN that the injury -- a compression fracture of an L1 vertebra -- won't require surgery.

It would appear that opportunity is knocking for rookie QB Dak Prescott, which has pundits and fans split. Obviously, he's got some raw talent, but that rawness is disconcerting.
