El Pasoans are confused.

It seems like we continue to go back and forth on what guidelines to follow as COVID-19 positive cases increase in our area. We are in a Stage 2 situation of COVID-19 situational monitoring, according to the City/County of El Paso COVID-19 results.

Many people are still taking the proper precautions to go back into society, but it seems something is still not working, as we are seeing an increase in testing site lines and positive cases.

Those who gathered with family and friends during the holidays seem to be a huge factor in these rising numbers. The scary thing is these numbers are only coming from those who are actually getting tested and reporting the results. So the numbers could even be higher.

Due to this, it is understandable that El Paso officials were hesitant to embrace the new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) COVID-19 guidance.

It took them some time, but it is official as of January 6th, 2022, that El Paso's Department of Public Health will align with the CDC for updated recommendations for isolation and quarantine.

This means you only have to stay home and isolate yourself from other people for at least five full days. Once you clear that, they still want you to wear a mask at home and in public for an additional five days. Which is weird, just stay home for the full ten. Don't you think this is still a possible hazard? Or do we just want people to get back to work?

We know the City of El Paso and the CDC recommend we stay home, but can any of us really afford to stay home when we are sick?

That has been the issue when all of this first started. They sent us money to stay home, they tried to make everyone get vaccines but here we are seeming to regress.

If you are sick, please try to stay home.

If you don't think it matters, please monitor the numbers and hospitalizations.

We say we are El Paso Strong and love our city, well then we need to do what we need to in order to protect our city and those who are in it.
