If you want to have some fun this weekend and take in fresh air at one of El Paso's prettiest spots, make plans to be at th El Paso County Parks & Recreation Second Annual Catfish Classic Tournament.

The event is open to all ages. It is a catch and release fishing tournament on Saturday, August 17 from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Ascarate Park. I had no idea that fishes got up so early in the morning.

If you would like to participate in the tournament, you can register at the El Paso County Parks & Recreation Administrative offices at 6900 Delta. The offices are inside Ascarate Park. You can register early for $20 through Friday, August 16th. Late registration is the day of the event and the fee to register goes up to $25 and fees will be collected day of the event. You will only be able to register with cash on the day of the

Along with the fishing, you'll also get some cool swag. The first 100 participants will get a logoed cap and all tournament participants will be entered into a raffle for additional prizes.

Categories include Men, Women and Youth anglers. There is a two pole limit per angler, and kayaks/boats (trolling motors only) will be able to be on the lake. All anglers over the age of 18 years old are required to have a fishing license issued by the State of Texas. You can get them at most sporting goods stores.

There is a parking fee of $2 per vehicle, and shelter rentals will also be available for the day starting at $50, but you will need to make reservations for them at the Ascarate Park office.
