El Paso Pet Parents Check Out Ascarate Park’s Santa Paws Pet Walk
Tis the season to be jolly bow wow wow wow wow, wow wow wow wow. Ok, I agree, I went a long way to get that joke in but if you're a pet parent you know that Christmas isn't just about ho-ho-ho, and mistletoe and presents to pretty girls, it's also about your four-legged fur baby. They wait for you at home every day while you go to work or out to party or just to run some errands and what do they get in return? Well, they get fed and treats but what they want is more time with you. Here's how you can enjoy the season and take your pet to a fun event.
SANTA PAWS PET WALK
The El Paso County Parks and Recreation Department has teamed up with the Animal Welfare Department and put together the first ever Santa Paws Pet Walk. The event is taking place on Saturday, December 11th at Ascarate Park beginning at 8 a.m. Just in case you think this is only about getting your pet out and about during the holiday season, it isn't. There is a serious reason for this event, a very serious reason.
SPAYING AND NEUTERING
I told you it was serious. The Parks and Recreation Department and the Animal Welfare Department know that pet overpopulation is a serious problem in El Paso so they are working together to help bring awareness to the public about how to manage El Paso's pet population. The Santa Paws Pet Walk is one of many events the two departments are developing to educate El Paso pet owners and potential pet owners about spaying and neutering their pets.
WHEN, WHERE, HOW MUCH
You'll need to pre-register for the event beginning Wednesday, December 8th. You can register at the
Parks and Recreation administrative offices inside Ascarate Park at 6900 Delta or the day of the event.
Registrations fees are $10 per adult and $5 per child, cash only, and the proceeds will go towards the Animal Welfare Department Pet Wellness Clinic. If you would like to donate to the Clinic they can use money, pet food, dog houses, collars, leashes, and any pet related items.
