Growing up, some of my fondest memories during the 4th of July were the days we would get together at my grandparent's house in the Lower Valley and we would countdown the hours until the sun would set because that meant it was time to watch the fireworks show from Western Playland's former location, Ascarate Park.

Me, my siblings and cousins would set up our chairs or blankets, grab some snacks and watch the fireworks show from the comfort of our grandparent’s backyard.

Well, although the amusement park has moved, the one thing that remains is their annual 4th of July fireworks show, and this year guests can enjoy a little preview of the fireworks show every Friday during June.

Western Playland officials announced that the amusement park would feature live music and a fireworks show every Friday this Summer beginning Friday, June 9th.

The fireworks shows are scheduled for Friday, June 9th, 16th, 23rd, and June 30th. It all leads up to the amusement park's annual fireworks celebration that will be held on Tuesday, July 4th.

Guests who plan on heading to the park on the 4th of July can expect the gates to open at 6 pm and the fireworks show will begin at 9 p.m.

Admission for a "pay one price" bracelet is $27.65 for people 42 inches or taller and $18.49 for people 34 to 41 inches tall.

You can also pay for "admission" only, which costs $5, and individual ride tickets for $3 each, and don’t forget that active duty military receive a $3 discount.

If you aren’t able to make it out to the park on the 4th of July then make sure to take advantage of the park's Father’s Day special where fathers ride for free on Sunday, June 18th with the purchase of a “pay one price” bracelet.
