Speaking Rock Turning Loverboy Loose at Free Outdoor Show
The ‘80s come calling in May when Speaking Rock turns Loverboy loose for a free outdoor show.
Yeah, they’re not just "Working for the Weekend," they’re working on the weekend. And the "Lucky Ones" will be everyone attending. Not just because it’s a free show, but because they're bringing all their throwback hits.
No question they are a lot older now (aren't we all?), but unlike many of the bands from the early ‘80s still touring today, all but one of the original members of Loverboy are still in the band, including vocalist Mike Reno and lead guitar player Paul Dean.
Loverboy Fun Facts: Working Was A Flub and The Butt In the Red Pants
Fun fact #1: "Working for the Weekend" was actually written as, and titled "Waiting For The Weekend,” but singer Mike Reno mistakenly sang "everybody's working for the weekend" instead.
Co-writer Paul Dean liked that a lot more and kept it like that. And the rest, as they say, is rock and roll history.
Fun fact #2: The butt on the album cover for "Get Lucky," which spawned the mega-hit "Working for the Weekend," is not any of the band members' bottom.
Ultimate Classic Rock reports it belongs to the 13-year-old daughter of the photographer who shot the pic. No one in Loverboy could squeeze into the only pair they could find at the time, so the teen got the job.
Free Outdoor Show at Speaking Rock
The free outdoor show is set for Saturday, May 7.
I can’t say for sure if Reno will be rocking the red leather pants or if he can even still fit into them. That's not me throwing shade at the noticeably heftier Mike Reno. I can't fit into mine anymore, either, and my girlish figure days are long gone, too.
But I think the bandanna is a sure thing. Those things are one-size fits all.
Leather pants or not, the setlist will have all the classic rock song you know and love: “Lovin’ Every Minute of It,” “Lucky Ones,” “Hot Girls in Love,” “The Kid is Hot Tonite,” “Turn Me Loose,” “When It’s Over,” and, of course, their signature anthem “Working for the Weekend.”
Oh yeah, there's no doubt attendees are going to spend the evening loving every minute of it.
