This is the time of the year when live music fans in El Paso start to wonder about the artist lineup for the Neon Desert Music Festival.

The festival’s Twitter feed just recently began to get active again but hasn’t offered up any clues, and the official website only encourages us to “stay tuned.”

But there’s strong indication online one of the headliners is going to be multi-platinum selling rapper Kevin Gates. Although an El Paso date is not listed on either the Ticketmaster or the artist’s website, a video recently posted on his social media platforms promoting his “I’m Him U.S. Tour Part II” does.

The clip reveals the rapper from Baton Rouge will be in “El Paso, TX Neon Desert” on Saturday, May 23.

Gates, who has been releasing one popular mixtape after another since 2007, went mainstream with his 2016 album Islah, which climbed to No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot 200 chart and yielded the quadruple-platinum song 2 Phones.

The Neon Desert Music Festival will return to downtown over the Memorial Day weekend. It will be the tenth year for the festival, which has brought acts such as Wiz Khalifa, Lil Wayne, At the Drive In, and Daddy Yankee to town.

The lineup is typically made public anytime between late February and mid-March.
