The hunt for a prisoner who escaped Wednesday night from a medical facility in Las Cruces while in police custody continues today.

NMSU police say Michael Derby, who was arrested earlier this week after jacking a car at gunpoint in El Paso and leading police on a two-state chase, was being treated at the hospital when he managed to get away. According to CBS4, he was naked when he escaped.

Derby reportedly stole a pick-up truck pulling a horse trailer with several horses inside from the Pic Quick on University. The truck was later found abandoned in a neighborhood around Conlee Elementary, per a post on the Las Cruces Sun-News Facebook page.

What he was being treated for or how he managed to get way from police custody has not been made public.

Derby is described as 5"11", 181 pounds with a tattoo of skull on the back of his calf. He has short hair and a light goatee. If you see him or have knowledge of his whereabouts, you are asked to please call 911 immediately.
