Texas Governor, Greg Abbot,  has decided to permit movie theaters to reopen on May 1. But according to the movie industry newspaper, Deadline, most Texas movie theaters will not be opening on that date. Deadline is reporting that CineMark, AMC and Alamo Draft House will be waiting to open their theaters until some time around mid-summer. This is not only due to safety concerns, but also a lack of movies coming out. Some theaters are implementing new cleaning procedures as well as new cleaning equipment. It will take time to train employees on the new equipment, stated the Deadline article. Then there is the issue of new releases.

Many major movie releases have been postponed due to the Coronavirus. According to the Wrap, movies like Fast and Furious 9, Mulan and Mission Impossible 7 have all been pushed to later dates. The next big movie release is Warner Bros "Tenet" scheduled to be released on July 17th.
