Fans Are Furious Over This Texas Theater’s ‘Wicked’ Ban!
This Texas Theater Just Declared War on Sing-Alongs, and Wicked Fans Aren't Happy
The theater people of the world are getting their emerald green and pink outfits ready for the highly anticipated premiere of “Wicked.” But wait- the news I am about to tell you theater people may upset you, so prepare yourself.
If you were planning to channel your inner Broadway star and sing your heart out during the movie, NO YOU ARE NOT!
AMC Theaters has other plans. Spoiler alert—it doesn’t involve singing your heart out.
AMC recently dropped a 30-second pre-show warning that states:
“No talking. No texting. No singing. No wailing. No flirting. And absolutely no name-calling. Enjoy the magic of movies.”
Translation: Your impromptu solo is not welcomed at ANY AMC theater! An AMC spokesperson backed up the rules, citing the company’s "long-standing policy that prohibits disruptive behavior." Talk about Wicked Witch energy!
While AMC’s policy seems like a buzzkill, other theaters will likely follow this rule, and honestly, I am not mad about that.
I plan on watching the movie with my mom and sister and even though I am a former choir geek and I love a good musical, I also understand that not everyone around me feels the same and rather enjoy the movie in silence.
For those of you who simply cannot resist harmonizing to “Popular,” fear not. Participatory screenings are coming to select theaters starting Christmas Day. So, save those vocal cords until then!
