Meet The Texas Talent Making Waves on Broadway and In Hollywood!
It’s always exciting when you read that someone from your hometown is making it big in the world of Hollywood, and El Pasoans have totally been doing that these past few months both on the big screen and on the stage!
Hollywood better watch out—El Paso is coming in hot with talent!
Shelby Acosta:
First up: an El Pasoan is making a name for herself on Broadway! FitFam shared a series of photos showcasing El Pasoan Shelby Acosta who’s currently starring in the Broadway musical Real Women Have Curves. Shelby’s playing Prima Flaca, one of the strong and sassy family members in Ana’s story—a powerful tale about chasing your dreams while honoring your roots. From Montwood High, (Go Rams!) to performing with the UTEP Dinner Theatre, to the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy to Texas State University, Shelby’s journey is what dreams are made of.
Before Broadway came calling, Shelby even worked as a cruise line performer. Since then, she’s been in the all-female Broadway revival of 1776 AND toured with the Angelica cast of Hamilton. We love to see it!!
Paulina Chavez:
Also making waves is Paulina Chavez who reps El Paso and Ciudad Juárez loud and proud. She is known for her role as Ariana in Paramount+’s Landman and most recently played a part in the Disney+ movie, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip.
FitFam shared a video of Chavez where she spoke about her love for Chico’s Tacos as well as her appreciation for her hometown roots.
Alonso Rappa:
And last, but not least, some love was shown to Alonso Rappa who landed a role in Season 3 of AMC’s Dark Winds.
Alonso’s part in the series has him playing a boy gone missing. He appears in the three episodes as Ernesto Cata, a boy who is found dead in a drainage pipe.
According to an online article by MSN.com, Alonso returned to El Paso shortly after shooting the scene and was called back to appear in two more episodes.
I LOVE seeing locals making a name for themselves both on the big screen, small screen, stage AND BEYOND!
