Goodbye Luanne: Luby’s Cafeteria on Mesa Set to Permanently Close
Good news, bad news fellow Luby’s lovers.
First the bad news. ABC-7 has learned it is the end of the buffet line for the Luby’s on N. Mesa. The news station reports the Texas cafeteria chain’s west side location is shutting its doors for good in April.
And Then There Was One
The good news is, the east side location will remain open.
But unless you live near or are willing to drive to the one across from Cielo Vista Mall then no creamy macaroni and cheese or golden fried square fish for you.
Pre-covid, there were 3 Luby’s restaurants in El Paso. The Chelsea Street location was the first to close permanently in 2020. The N. Mesa location also closed during the pandemic and was locked out temporarily for failing to pay rent, but reopened in August of 2020.
Last Day, Last Dish
According to KVIA, longtime west side restaurant will be serving its last dish at the end of business day on Easter Sunday, April 9.
Bummer. Where else am I going to get my cubed jello fix, and fool myself into thinking I'm eating healthy because I added green beans to my plate of chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes with extra creamy gravy?
The news station reports the owner of the property wants to redevelop it, which around here usually means another shopping center with more of the same stores.
