Jennifer Han Gets ‘Fight of a Lifetime’ Against Katie Taylor
For El Pasoan Jennifer Han, 12 years of professional boxing has produced one world title and dozens of impressive performances. However, the one thing that she has never received is a big time title fight. All of that will change on September 4th when Han (18-3-1, 1 KO and 3 no contests) travels to Leeds, England to meet Katie Taylor (18-0, 6 KOs) for the undisputed lightweight championship.
The 35-year old Irish fighter and former footballer currently holds the WBA, IBF, WBC, WBO, and Ring Magazine lightweight titles. Taylor is also one of only eight boxers in the history of the sport (male or female) to hold four world title belts simultaneously. Nine years ago, she captured the Olympic Gold Medal in boxing's lightweight division.
As for Han, the last five years have been busy both in and out of the ring. On September 19th, 2015 she defeated Helen Joseph at the Don Haskins Center by decision to win the vacant IBF Featherweight Championship. Over the next two and a half years, she successfully defended the belt four times. However, she also became a mom during that time and earlier this year, she welcomed her second child. Now, she gets an opportunity to challenge arguably the best female boxer in the world for all of her straps.
The Han-Taylor bout will be the co-main event on DAZN, which will feature Mauricio Lara and Josh Warrington in a much anticipated rematch. The two fought in February and Lara shocked Warrington with a ninth round knockout to deal the English fighter the first loss of his professional career. Now, he is fighting in his hometown of Leeds against Lara in a much anticipated rematch.
