If your child likes to read or you want to get him or her interested in reading more, plan to be at this weekend's Día de los Niños, Día de los Libros children's literacy celebration.

Tens of thousands of books will be given away at the 23rd annual children’s day event, which will be held Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year the event has moved from Washington Park to San Jacinto Plaza.

Because it is downtown, and parking can be an issue for some, Sun Metro will be providing free rides to everyone 18 and under -- including rides on the El Paso Streetcar. Just park along any of the Sun Metro bus, Brio or Streetcar routes heading downtown to San Jacinto Plaza.

Although the location is new, not much else has changed. Thousands of books will still be given away, and admission is still free. Aside from the free books, there will be live entertainment, and activities. Mouse from If You Give a Mouse a Cookie will be one of the many special guests, according to the event post.

There will be food booths set up too, but if you want to hit up a restaurant in the area or pack a picnic basket with your own drinks and sandwiches that's cool too.
