Sports Fan Erik Elken is Estela Casas’ New Partner at KVIA
93.1 KISS-FM has learned New Jersey native Erik Elken will take the seat next to Estela Casas at ABC7 KVIA.
Elken is leaving ABC/Fox affiliate WRGT in Dayton, Ohio where he’s worked as the morning anchor and sports director since 2014. He’ll take the position vacated by Rick Cabrera, who left Channel 7 on June 1 "to start a new chapter" in his life with an insurance brokerage here in town.
Elken announced his new El Paso gig in a Facebook post that included a photo of himself and Estela Casas at San Jacinto Plaza filming what appears to be a promotional clip which will presumably be used by the news station to announce his arrival.
It’s not known when the married father of one will assume co-anchoring the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. newscast at KVIA, but in his post he said he would be leaving Dayton on Sept. 10.
Prior to Ohio, Elken worked in Eugene, Oregon, as a Sports Anchor/Reporter and did play-by-play for the minor league baseball team in Troy, New York. Away from the news desk, his interests include skiing and, of course, watching and playing sports.
