After 23 Years, KVIA-TV’s Stephanie Valle is leaving the news world to focus on a new journey.

All good things must come to an end, and for local news stations that statement is often proven to be true.

El Pasoans share a unique connection with their local TV news anchors, inviting them into their homes every morning, afternoon, and evening. Growing up, I was no exception—whenever a familiar face was missing, I couldn’t help but wonder, “Where did they go?!”

After spending over a decade in the TV industry, I’ve learned that anchors don’t stay at one station forever—and that’s perfectly okay!

Life brings change, new opportunities come along.  It’s all part of the journey that shapes their careers and lives.

23 Years of Telling El Paso’s Stories

Stephanie Valle, KVIA-TV’s esteemed evening prime anchor, stunned viewers during the 6 p.m. newscast as she announced her departure from the station. “I can’t believe I’m actually saying this,” she began, her voice filled with emotion.

It all started with a passion to tell stories:

I was lucky enough to have worked with Steph while I was at KVIA. Steph is one of the most dedicated and hard working journalist I have met.

She will never take no for an answer, and her passion for telling stories is so very clearly seen in ever story she covers!

Stephanie’s love for journalism ignited at Hanks High School, where she honed her skills in the school’s broadcast production, “Knightvision.”

After college, she joined KVIA behind the scenes as a camera operator, eventually transitioning to an on-air role.

Her career trajectory included roles as a reporter, CW anchor, Good Morning El Paso host, and later the 4 p.m. anchor, leading her to a position as the station’s evening prime anchor.

Stephanie’s dedication to storytelling extended beyond the newsroom. Her passion for local crime stories led to her award-winning podcast, “Borderland Crimes”, earning accolades such as the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award.  She also dedicated her free time to volunteer for local charities.

“This is the kind of job that you have to love,” Stephanie shared. “The hours are hard, and the daily deadlines are stressful. But I have loved it. I’ve enjoyed finding my groove, growing as a journalist, and gaining the trust of my community.”

While Stephanie’s decision to leave wasn’t easy, it was driven by her devotion to her children.

“As much as I love what I do, I love my children more, and I need to take the opportunity now to be with them while they’re still young.”

El Pasoans will undoubtedly miss her trusted voice and unwavering dedication, I know I'll miss seeing her on my TV screen every weekday, but as a mom myself, I know that Stephanie will never regret this decision!

The time we get to spend with our little one’s is limited, so this is a decision that I know Stephanie will not regret!

To celebrate Stephanie’s amazing 23-years at KVIA, UTEP Athletics presented her with the game ball at the men’s basketball game on Thursday night.

No word yet on what Stephanie’s new journey will be, but we will be sure to keep you updated! Stephanie’s last day on air is January 3rd.
