Earlier this morning, I reported on a couple of stories on Mike and Tricia Mornings about happenings at some area school districts.  Let's call them the Good, the Bad, and the Ooopsie!

The Good is the Ysleta Independant School District.  They got word about a "hit list" of seniors being posted on Facebook.  Instead of messing around with student's safety, they cancelled their traditional senior assembly to head off any nonsense at the pass.  Yay YISD!  Was the "list" a hoax?  At this point, according to our news partners at ABC7, we don't know.  But we do know that YISD didn't hide and say they couldn't say anything about the report of the "list" - they came clean about their knowledge of it, their course of action, and their hope that they can hold the senior assembly at another date.

The Bad is the El Paso Independant School District.  After a very rough year that included their computers being hacked into, their superintendant giving his chick taxpayer money (allegedly), and the district being accused of grade tampering, now we find out that they want to spend more money on a public relations team to help them polish up their tarnished image.  Here's some free public relations tips EPISD - stop wasting our hard-earned taxpayer money, PERIOD.  Stop telling us that you aren't going to discuss whatever latest scandal because it's a "personnel", or "administrative" matter, or any other excuse you can come up with, to keep us in the dark.  The district exists, your jobs exist, because of taxpayer money.  We are your bosses.  Start talking, or find another job.  You guy don't need a public relations firm, you need a stern talking to by your grandmothers about owning up to your HUGE mistakes.  I would rather hear, "We really screwed up", than "We know you know we really screwed up, and in the interest of transparency, we are going to come clean about everything.  Except this screw up.  Because it's an administrative matter.  Or whatever other excuse we can come up with to keep you taxpayers out of our hair while we recklessly spend your money."  Get your act together EPISD.  Seriously.

And finally, The Ooopsie.  This one is Mike's and mine.  Mike blasted the adminstrators at Eastlake High School for running a terrorist drill without telling anyone about it and scaring the crap out of a lot of people.  We assumed Eastlake was in YISD and said so on the air.  It's not.  It's in the Socorro Independant School District.  We got a call from the lovely Patricia Ayala, YISD spokesperson, who set us straight.  Sorry about that, Patricia!  Thanks for the call!  But, you still have to take credit for quite the fiasco, SISD.

And thank you, dear reader, for letting me vent!
