The 2020 Census could mean multi-millions of your tax dollars coming back to El Paso to help out roads, parks, hospitals, schools, and other vital programs. El Paso area school districts are asking school families to call these two dedicated lines (915)314 -8785 and (915)792-1892 tomorrow during a telethon in which all school families who call the number and complete the Census will automatically entered into a raffle for $100 gift cards courtesy of the City of Socorro and Paso del Norte Complete Count Committee.

A census is taken every 10 years and the count of people living in a city and county helps determine how much of your taxpayer money we get back in our area for things like programs and services that are critical for schools, students, and younger children, things like:

Special education, Head Start, after-school programs, and classroom technology
Food assistance, including free and reduced-price school lunches
Maternal and child health programs

Right now the Census response rate for the City of El Paso is 67 percent, and the County of El Paso is 65.6 percent. We need to tell the federal government how many people are here so we get the money we pay to the IRS in taxes every year back for ourselves and our families. The Census is how the federal government knows how to allocate services to a certain area.

Here's what you need to know about filling out the Census and being entered into a raffle for $100 gift cards:
