An El Paso police officer was shot Monday night in an apparent drive-by shooting in the Lower Valley. According to witnesses interviewed by various television news stations, the officer was conducting a routine traffic stop on North Loop and Yarbrough at around 9 o’clock Monday night, and had just pulled over a gold colored vehicle when another car pulled up alongside, fired four or five shots at the officer, and then sped off.

Despite a manhunt, which the El Paso Times says included dozens of heavily-armed police officers, police dogs and a helicopter with a spotlight, the suspect or suspects remain at large.

The officer, who has not been identified, was reportedly taken to Del Sol Medical Center where he underwent surgery, and is listed in stable condition as of this morning.
