Here’s the latest on Monday's early morning officer involved shooting near Montana and Geronimo.

Around 5 o’clock in the morning, police say a clerk at the Quality Inn & Suites at 6099 Montana came face to face with an armed man who reportedly threatened him. The clerk went inside and called police, who were also confronted by the man upon their arrival. He was ordered by officers to put the gun down, but, according to the spokesman for the El Police Department, refused. The man then purportedly pointed the gun at the officers, who, fearing for their lives, fired at the suspect killing him.

Authorities have not identified the deceased other than to say he was a "22 year old Hispanic male, El Paso resident."

The Crimes Against Persons Unit and the Texas Rangers are conducting criminal investigations into the shooting and the Department’s Shooting Review Team is conducting an administrative investigation. The officers involved have been temporarily placed on administrative leave and will be assigned to administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation.
