We have a STRONG military presence here in El Paso; growing up on Post at Ft Bliss, I've been around the military lifestyle & I have a ton of respect for many of the brave men & women in the Armed Forces. That's why I wanted to write this to remember some of the bravest heroes we've had here in El Paso:

One name I want to throw out is Marcelino Serna. As reported by The El Paso Times, he was a WWI Private that received the Texas Legislative Medal of Honor. He passed away in 1992 at the age of 95 but he absolutely deserved to be remembered. You can see more of Marcelino's story below.

Another name I want to throw out is the Kileen, TX resident Glendon Oakley Jr. He was stationed here at Ft Bliss 7 during the 2019 Walmart Shooting, he was one of the many brave souls who risked his life to help people (including children) out of the mall during the shooting.

Sadly he died in 2020 but his actions will never be forgotten & they'll always be remembered...

General George Patton were serve part of his early career here in Ft Bliss before he would serve in World War II. The same goes to the 5-star general Omar Bradley; El Paso would even name a street after General Bradley.

We couldn't talk about military history in El Paso without mentioning the "Father of El Paso" himself Anson Mills. He would help GREATLY in the creation of Fort Stockton, Fort Bliss, Fort Quitman, as well as help creating so many of the roads we use today & what is now present Downtown El Paso. Anson WOULD eventually serve in the Army, ranking up to Brigadier General.

That's not even including all the tributes you can find online..

But if you REALLY want some names to truly remember in El Paso, just look at the names you can find at The Old Glory Memorial Site:
