El Paso City, County Cancel Halloween Events – Sheriff’s Office Light Show Still On
Due to the alarming surge in COVID-19 cases, the city and county have each canceled planned Halloween community events. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, on the other hand, is going through with theirs.
El Paso County Parks and Recreation will not be holding "Halloweekend at Ascarate Park” even with the safety measures it had put in place. That decision was made for them after El Paso County Judge Ricardo Samaniego called for the closure of all county parks for two weeks on October 23. Halloweekend at Ascarate Park, which was set for Friday, October 30 through Sunday, November 1, was to have featured a drive-thru scavenger hunt and several movies that were going to be screened drive-in style.
The City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department is also abandoning its planned Halloween in-person weekend festivities. The drive-thru trunk or treats parks and rec was going to put on at several rec centers throughout the city will no longer happen due to the current rise in COVID-19 infections and El Paso Mayor Dee Margo’s plea for residents to curtail their activities over the next two weeks.
EPCSO Drive-Up Halloween Light Show
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office plans to move forward with its drive-up Halloween light show, although it has modified the hours of the event to comply with the countywide curfew recently issued by the county judge.
Per the event post, the drive-up light show features “lights, music, video, animations, and your favorite spooky characters.” The one-of-a-kind light show will be held nightly from Thursday, October 29 through Saturday, October 31 at Sheriff’s Office Headquarters, 3850 Justice Dr. The show will run continuously from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
On Saturday, Halloween, the light show will be preceded by a drive-thru Trunk or Treat event. Beginning at 3 p.m., the first 300 children will receive a candy-filled basket. All kids are encouraged to wear their costumes.
