Lantern Lit Haunted Bar Crawl Will Uncover Buried History of Downtown El Paso
Did you know grave yards used to dot the downtown area?
Lost El Paso Paranormal wants to spirit you away this Friday, August 19, on a cemetery-themed ghost walk that will uncover the buried history of Downtown El Paso.
Downtown Burial Grounds: Haunted Bar Crawl
Over the many years of its existence, long before downtown became the downtown we’re all familiar with, numerous cemeteries, grave sites, and burying grounds used to pepper the area.
The Downtown Burial Grounds Haunted Bar Crawl will point these spots out and make a few stops at bars and nightclubs with spooky reputations along the way.
The Clubs
Ghost tour attendees can toss back a few whiles listening to spine-tingling tales of ghosts, ghouls, and the creepy happenings that have occurred within the walls of the buildings the clubs and bars call home.
The Mona Bar of Modern Art on E. San Antonio and Dillinger’s Bar located inside the haunted and historic Gardner Hotel are a couple of the bars the brave, curious, and thirsty will visit during the walk.
The Gardner
As the oldest continually operating hotel in El Paso, the 100-year-old building has served as a stayover for many travelers from all walks of life, including infamous outlaw bank robber John Dillinger who rested his head there for a night in 1934 while on one of his murderous cross country crime sprees.
The Hauntings
According to Lost El Paso Paranormal founder and costumed tour guide Heather Shade, the Gardner is the eternal home for a duo of apparitions; one is believed to be a former staffer of the hotel and the other a long-ago frequent guest.
Shade tells me other unexplained phenomena in the century old hotel includes staff getting service calls from rooms that are unoccupied, guests feeling an invisible entity sitting on the end of their bed, and others reporting the water faucet in the bathroom turns on and off on its own with no apparent explanation.
The hotel still looks much as it did when it first opened in 1922, which only adds to the haunt factor.
