The coronavirus outbreak has not only kept kids out of the classroom it has also disrupted the way many area school children get access to food. School districts in the El Paso area are making sure that breakfast and lunches are being distributed Monday through Friday, but what about on the weekend? Being hungry is a horrible thing, and to combat the possibility that kids go hungry on the weekend, the Canutillo Independent School District Child Nutrition Department says they will be distributing breakfast and lunch for the weekend as well as for Monday through Friday.

Families will be able to get their children ages 18 and under breakfast and lunches for the weekends on Fridays beginning today, April 24. CISD officials say the distribution of breakfast and lunch will be combined to minimize contact between families and district employees. Parents don't need to bring their kids to the distribution sites. they just need to show district documentation.

Here is the documentation process for CISD:
Parents can bring their kids to a distribution site to be officially counted by CISD Child Nutrition staff. They will be issued a card with the number of children who live in that household. Parents will need to present the card each day that they pick up meals. Parents can also bring any of these five documents to show proof that a child lives in their household:
Official Letter/email/electronic school application from their school, listing children enrolled,
Individual student report cards,
Attendance record from parent portal of the school website, printed or electronic, that includes the children’s names,
Birth certificate for children not in school,
Student ID cards.
