An Open Letter To TxDOT
Dear TxDOT, you're killing my tires!
Dear TxDOT, I really appreciate that you’re here to stay for the long haul but I’m writing this to tell you that I’ve had 4 nails in my tires in the past 2 months.
I’ve become friends with the kind folks at Tops Tire & Wheel because in the last 2 months I’ve had nails and screws stuck in my tires. I even joked that they should start offering a punch card that gives a free tire patch up for every five purchased.
Here’s the thing, I appreciate that you are making our roads better by expanding and rebuilding but the amount of nails on the road is getting ridiculous. At first, it was an occasional flat tire, but now it's just getting out of hand. As drivers we are already frustrated that lanes are condensed, streets and freeways sometimes close and on top of that you add constant flat tires and you have a very cranky driver on the road and no one wants that.
Since I’ve spent about a couple of hundred dollars on new tires and patch works in the last two months, I was wondering if there was any way I could possibly get reimbursed.
I know that seems petty but my insurance doesn’t quite cover such incidents and it seems that the bill keeps racking up.
I don’t foresee doling out a couple of bills every other month to maintain my tires and I know for a fact that I’m not the only driver on the road that is experiencing this.
So while I look into this reimbursement idea can you do me a solid in the meantime; can you maybe send out a cleaning crew to sweep out these nails off the roadway?
Thanks, I’d really appreciate that TxDOT – I know once the nightmare construction is complete and traffic runs smoothly again I’ll be singing your praises, but until then I’ll keep saving my fix-a-flat receipts just in case.
