Alamo Drafthouse to Host ‘Anything for Selenas’ Movie Parties

Alamo Drafthouse will be honoring the life and legacy of beloved Tejano music legend Selena on her birthday weekend, April 13 -15, with the 2nd Annual Anything for Selenas celebration and movie party.

"Anything for Selenas," as any card carrying Latino should know, is a reference to one of the most quoted lines from the 1997 movie, Selena. In the scene leading up to the line, a couple of cholos in a low-rider stop to help Selena and her family pull their tour bus out of a ditch.

Their good deed results in the hooptie losing its rear bumper, but the owner refuses to let his idol "Salinas" pay for the damage. "Are you kidding me, man?" he asks incredulously. "This bumper is going to go on the wall of my garage, carnal. I’m going to put a little sign under it, it's gonna say, ‘This bumper was pulled off by the bus of Salinas!’"

As many times as I've seen the movie, that scene still makes me LOL.

One of the highlights of the weekend long festivities is a nightly Selena Movie Party. Every screening of the now-classic movie that made Jennifer Lopez a household name will include sing-a-longs, and themed props for attendees to use during the film. Selena music videos and rare interview clips will play prior to each showing.

Tickets to the movie parties scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, April 13, 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 14, and 6 p.m. Sunday, April 15 are on sale now. Details are still coming together and more planned activities will be revealed soon. Until then, keep calm and Bidi Bidi Bom Bom.
