EPCC Fashion Students Pay Homage To Selena In Upcycled Designs
El Paso, Texas LOVES Selena, that much is absolutely true and its reflected in everything from art galleries to murals on the street. Selena is a queen and we honor her daily in this city. Well now we are honoring her with a fashion show and EPCC is taking the lead! This is what you can expect to see April 20th at this exclusively EPCC event hosted at Camp Cohen!
"EPCC Fashion students are creating sustainable fashion for Earth Day with one inspiration in mind, the queen of Tejano music, Selena. The fashion program was selected to collaborate by and with the El Paso Museum of Art and the Market to design and produce the sustainable fashion show element at this year’s Earth Day market. The Fashion Promotion class FSHN 2301 is producing the fashion show and students from across the program are upcycling designs for the show.
The EPCC Fashion Show will take place Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 12:30pm-1:00pm at Camp Cohen, 9700 Gateway Blvd. North, and is a free community event. Media is invited to attend.
For the production, students are learning how to scout and cast models, fit clothing, design stages, build a hair and makeup team, recruit and organize designers and clothing, and communicate professionally. The student producer for this special event is Samantha Renteria and director, Susana Munoz Cereceres.
“Being a part of this experience has only made my last semester in the fashion program even more significant. It was definitely a new challenging field which put me out of my comfort zone more than once, in a productive way. I feel encouraged to know that I have the support of of my peers to make this event a success”, said student producer, Samantha Renteria.
Students from all levels of the fashion program have volunteered to create a sustainable look in celebration of Selena on Earth Day weekend. Some students are embellishing thrifted clothing just like Selena used to do. While others are recreating some of her most iconic looks out of found materials and recycled resources.
“I'm thrilled to join this Earth Day tribute to Selena. Her style and commitment to sustainability inspire us all. We're transforming thrifted pieces and recycling materials, honoring her legacy while shaping a greener fashion future”, said fashion promotion student Amna Aboushehata.
Students in the fashion program took applications and selected design talent from the community to design for Selena with the program. Bazaar Model Management sponsored the model casting call so that students can have an authentic experience.
The Market at Camp Cohen is Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 10:00a.m.-1:00p.m. at Camp Cohen, 9700 Gateway Blvd. North, and is a free community event. The fashion program would cordially like to invite everyone from the EPCC family to come out and support all the talent and hard work the fashion program has done to make this fashion show spectacular and something that Selena would have really enjoyed."
