A Whole Lotta Baloney Was Confiscated At The Paso Del Norte Bridge – Here’s Why You Can’t Bring It Across
Did you know that baloney can get you a $1,000 ticket for bringing meat across the Mexican border?
There are a lot of things you cannot cross from Mexico into the United States and one of them is Mexican bologna. It is delicious, but get caught with it and you'll get a ticket and the contraband baloney will get confiscated and destroyed. All that delicioso baloney, gone. What a waste.
Earlier this week, 227 pounds of contraband Mexican bologna was seized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the Paso Del Norte bridge. The driver tried to cross around 7 a.m. and didn't declare any agricultural products during an initial stop. A secondary exam uncovered 23 rolls of bologna hidden under the floor mat in her car.
So why the problem with Mexican meat? Well, it's made with pork and has a potential for introducing foreign animal diseases into the pork industry. The driver was given a $1,000 ticket and the bologna was destroyed.
