2019 Music Under the Stars: Noche Ranchera Returns But Not July 4 Fireworks
The dates and band line-up for the 2019 season of Music Under the Stars is out, and this year there are several notable changes to the summer series.
First, there will only be 4 concerts this year -- all at the Chamizal -- and unlike previous seasons, the music mix will not include any national or international recording acts. Instead, they will all feature local bands. And while the popular Noche Ranchera will return, the schedule does not include a Fourth of July Fireworks show this year.
As 93.1 KISS-FM previously reported, the reason for the shortened season is the redevelopment of the Cohen Stadium site. The old baseball stadium will be demolished soon to make way for one of the 5 regional water parks the city is building, so that venue is not an option this year.
And because the United States Department of the Interior, which oversees the Chamizal National Memorial, had its budget slashed last year it can no longer afford to host the series for a full 8 weeks nor the annual fireworks show.
MUTS gets underway June 9 and ends June 30. All concerts are on Sundays at the Chamizal from 7:30-9:30 p.m.
