These ten new movie sequels and remakes slated for release later this year are giving me all the nostalgic feels, and I can’t wait to see them all.

Movies have a way of transporting you back in time, where words, music, and moving pictures breathe life to fantastic and magical worlds.

Although the ongoing pandemic has limited our entertainment options, we have plenty to look forward to with these much-anticipated sequels of Coming to 2 America, Top Gun, Ghostbuster’s, and the Disney remakes of Cruella and Jungle Cruise.

Coming 2 America: Opening on March 5, 2021, on Amazon Prime

Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, and James Earl Jones are back after three decades in the upcoming comedy sequel of Coming 2 America.

Cruella: Opening on May 28, 2021

Cruella is Disney’s latest live-action remake of an old classic, and it looks like it’ll be worth the wait (but still no trailer available yet), starring Emma Stone and Emma Thompson.

Godzilla Vs. Kong: Opening on March 31, 2021, with a simultaneous release on HBO Max

Die-hard fans of Godzilla and King Kong can choose to watch in theatres or via HBO Max when these two legendary giants throw down in an epic battle in March. Ironically the film stars Alexander Skarsgard, the actor in The Legend of Tarzan.

Speaking of old throwback films, Bugs Bunny, LeBron James, and Don Cheadle are reviving an old favorite animated / action movie in Space Jam: A New Legacy.

Jungle Cruise: Opening in theatres July 30, 2021

Based on the Disney theme park attraction of the same name, Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson and Emily Blunt star in this classic action-adventure film. The movie hits theatres in July and will probably also be available with premium access on Disney +.

Dune: Opening on October 1, 2021, with a simultaneous release on HBO Max

Another decades-old sci-fi film that once starred Mel Gibson is getting revamped, again. Dune will have a double release in theatres and on-demand later this year.

Ghostbuster’s - Afterlife: Opening on November 11, 2021

I can still recall watching the original Ghostbuster’s at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in L.A. with my older brother, and now I’m bursting with anticipation for the sequel. Directed by Jason Reitman (real-life son of Ivan Reitman, who directed the original Ghostbusters franchise), Ghostbuster’s: Afterlife picks up the storyline years later, starring Paul Rudd.
