Before the snowfall, last night, The City of El Paso Street and Maintenance, Collections Crews, and Mass Transit began to prep in anticipation of the snowy and icy conditions.

By 9 p.m. Wednesday, rainfall had turned to slush, which then turned into snow, blanketing the entire city and its mountains into a white haze.

Street Maintenance Crews

In anticipation of the winter storm, the City of El Paso began to prepare since Monday to help alleviate icy roadway conditions.

  • The plan also included working on winterizing buildings, park irrigation systems, and restrooms from potential water line breaks resulting from possible freezing temperatures.
  • Crews also focused on "overpasses and bridges as well as roadways that lead from highways to hospitals and from fire stations to arterial/collector streets and highways."
  • Motorists are encouraged to slow their roll Thursday morning mainly because of the treacherous driving conditions and are reminded to keep a safe distance from crews working on the streets.
