Today is the day the whole city comes together to celebrate the official ground breaking of the Downtown Triple A Ballpark! There will be banners flying, marching bands, kids and parents embracing our City officials who brought us....... yeah, ok, not everyone is happy. I got it. But it's happening, so here are the details.
‘El Paso ballpark costs may rise $10M’! ‘City wants $10 million more for ballpark construction’!! ‘The cost of the downtown AAA ballpark is about to go up. Way up’!!! The downtown ballpark doesn’t need any help in causing people to freak out, but the El Paso media is doing it’s best to continue to stoke the freak out fires. So what’s the real deal on the ‘additional 10 million dollars’ that city officials are being asked for? Well, pull up a chair and I’ll try to break it down for you, and why you shouldn't believe the drama queen El Paso Media.
A central El Paso neighborhood gets to keep it's Chicos Tacos, for now, at least.
El Paso voters are going to choose a new mayor on May 11th, and 8 candidates are running for the spot. This week, Mike and Tricia Mornings is getting to know them.
So, the City is going to build a Triple A ballpark in downtown El Paso - maybe you've heard something about that? The City has also hired 3 artists to art-up the joint. So the question is, what kind of art do you want to see at the ballpark?

The flu season lasts until May, so if you think that you’ve missed the worst of a bad flu season, you’re lucky.

City Manager Joyce Wilson went through what most of us have to do on a yearly basis yesterday - she had her employee evaluation.
But her evaluation this year was colored by snarky emails that were released by opponents of the Triple A ballpark in which Wilson said a couple of city reps seemd to suffer from dementia, and ballpark opponents were quote, "crazies". Mayor John Cook said the private emails factored into Wilson's evaluation, but wouldn't discuss her evaluation further because it was a personnel issue, and it was time to move on. I agree.
Part of the fight over the recently passed Quality of Life bonds centered on Cohen Stadium and the Tiguas.
Some El Pasoans thought Cohen should have been renovated or torn down, and the new Triple A ballpark built on the northeast site.
That isn't going to happen, but something big might be coming to the Cohen Stadium site soon.
Earlier this morning, I posted a blog about Triple A baseball coming to El Paso - City Council has voted to build a 50 million dollar ballpark to house a baseball team, and even thought there are a couple of legal challenges to that vote, we now know that WE HAVE A TRIPLE A BASEBALL TEAM!!!!
