Look, I'm going to be the first to tell you that I just don't believe it. I don't believe there are spirits that float around freak us out on purpose.

And I full well know there are going to be PLENTY of others that tell me otherwise...I know, I've heard from a lot of you already.

Amarillo has a RICH history of haunted places and whatnot, and I'll admit I haven't been to any of them yet. Maybe if I went to The Nat when people tell me to, I'd think differently. However, I don't think I'd suddenly start believing.

The concept of spirits or ghosts slamming cupboard doors, or a random wind blowing past me inside a building just doesn't seem real to me. I mean, there could easily be someone quickly slamming a door to make you THINK it's a ghost. That wind gust you felt? Probably the vent above you that someone just randomly flipped on.

We have haunted hospitals, hotels, apartment complexes, etc. in Amarillo. If ALL of these places were actually haunted, then you may as well count Amarillo as the scariest place on Earth. I've lived in a LOT of different places in my lifetime, and NEVER have I encountered a city supposedly as haunted as Amarillo is.

I can sit here and wax poetic about my thoughts on the subject, but I want to put the ball in your court. Have you had a TRUE experience with a spirit or ghost? If so, what was it? Make me believe all of this is real would ya? I'd love for something to scare the pants off of me, but I just don't feel there's a chance of that happening.

The Eerie Abandoned Puckett Place Apartments of Amarillo

The Puckett Place apartments at 3447 Amherst St. have been a vacant and in disrepair for well over a decade. The building has finally been slated for renovation and at long last, Puckett Place will see a new life.

The Abandoned Herring Hotel in Amarillo, Texas

You may have passed it a million times while driving downtown, or you may be new to town. Either way, chances are you've seen the beautiful Herring Hotel. The beautiful aging brick tower sits unoccupied on 3rd and Pearce streets. It's a grand building that stands as a reminder of Amarillo's early days as a cattle and oil town and it tells the stories well.
