Balloon Fest, Exposé, Lincoln Park Day: What to Do This Weekend In and Around El Paso
Got weekend plans yet?
If you have room on your social calendar and you're looking for suggestions, I got you. From concerts to festivals, here are six fun ways to celebrate the weekend.
Fiesta de las Luces
South El Paso Street is going to be lit Saturday -- both literally and figuratively – with a party under the lights in Downtown El Paso.
The free, family-friendly event will include food trucks and over 30 art and merch vendors with all kinds of local goodies and flavors.
Along with live music from Mariachi Alegre and local variety band Frequenzia, the heroes and villains of Lucha Frontera will rumble and tumble inside the ring and under the lights with nine matches scheduled for the evening.
The street party is happening from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. on S. El Paso Street between Paisano and Fourth.
If freestyle is your jam, then Freestyle at the Rock is the concert for you. The free-to-attend outdoor show at Speaking Rock is being headlined by Exposé.
The '80s girl group will be singing and dancing to all their big radio hits from back in the day on Saturday night. [More]
The Fort Bliss community is hosting its annual autumnal celebration Friday through Sunday at Biggs Park, so a trip to the Northeast is as far as you have to go to get your Oktoberfest fix of German polka music, bratwurst, pretzels, and beer.
And it’s not just for military folks. The event is open to the entire El Paso community, you just need to have a Recreational Pass to get on base.
No children allowed Friday and Saturday night, but Sunday, Sept.18, is Free Family Day. [More]
Lincoln Park Day
From Zoot Suit-wearing vatos to lovingly restored and tricked-out lowriders, the yearly event will put El Paso’s heritage on display for an afternoon.
Lincoln Park Day is Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is free to attend. El Paso band 96 Proof will be part of the entertainment that will also include Matachines and Ballet Folklorico dance groups. [More]
El Paso Space Festival
The annual space event, now in its fourth year, will blast-off Saturday with the free to attend Space and Lunar Extravaganza at Sunland Park Mall and continue Sunday afternoon at the Alamo Drafthouse Montecillo.
The afternoon will include the 2016 film “Passengers” starring Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt ($10), and a guest speaker from the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. [More]
White Sands Balloon & Music Festival
If you’re up for a drive, the White Sands Balloon and Music Festival takes flight Friday through Sunday.
The three-day festival combines live music, food vendors, and family-friendly activities with the beauty of hot air balloons from Ed Brabson Balloon Park in the heart of Alamogordo and the gypsum dunes of White Sands National Park. [More]
