With all of the uncertainty around the reopening of schools in our area, it can be a stressful time for local families. That's why the YMCA of El Paso has opened a virtual learning center to make sure you can work and that your kids won't fall behind in their schooling.

As a parent, you want to keep your family safe during these uncertain times, but you also don't want your child to fall behind. Their education is important. Whether you're working from the office or a home office, it can be tough to maintain your focus on both work and your family. Plus, the technology necessary for virtual learning (like a computer and internet access) may not be available in your home.

The virtual learning centers, which are available at all El Paso YMCA locations, are safe spaces that are equipped with computer and internet services. They are open daily from 7 am until 3 pm. Before and aftercare is also available. Click here to find out more or you can call the El Paso YMCA at 915-532-9622.

At a cost of just $70 per week for members (and $120 per week for non-members), it's an investment into your child's future. Daily rates are also available.

"We want parents to go to work. If they have to be their child's teacher, they don't have that income coming in. We want to be that resource for the parents," YMCA president & CEO, Bill Coon says. "(Parents) can bring (their children) to the YMCA, use the donated computers and complete their school work every day until the schools can go back and function normally in an in-person school system."

All locations of the El Paso YMCA are following the latest COVID-19 safety protocols from local and federal officials. This includes the screening of all patrons (with a questionnaire and temperature check) as they enter the YMCA.

The computers were donated by FirstLight Federal Credit Union in support of the YMCA's efforts to give youth in low-income communities access to technology.

Space in the virtual learning center is limited, so visit their website at ElPasoYMCA.org or call them at 915-532-9622 to register or for more information.
