The El Paso Independent School District has a shortage of bus drivers so they are raising the hourly pay rate for bus drivers. They had previously been paid $10.50 an hour, but the school board recently voted to increase that pay rate to $15 an hour.

If you would like to drive a bus for EPISD you need a certain license so you need to get a CDL license in order to be a bus driver. EPISD is offering that training and they will even offer reimbursement for the training. EPISD officials say the district hopes that helping people who are interested in becoming a bus driver get the help they need in getting the training they need will provide an incentive for them to become a bus driver.

EPISD officials say they aren’t to the point where they don’t have enough drivers to transport kids but if that happens they will have to start looking at cutting the number of routes they can handle. Officials say they have bus hubs in the west, northeast and south central parts of town so potential bus drivers could get assigned close to their homes.
