If you've ever wanted to be a firefighter, now is your chance because the El Paso Fire Department is accepting applications for firefighter trainees. You'll need to act fast, though, because the last day to put in an application is Thursday, August 9 at 11:59 p.m.

EPFD says they qualified candidates will undergo a paid six-month training academy. While you are in the academy, you earn $12.65/hour. Trainees who complete the academy and are promoted to firefighters will earn an annual salary starting at $40,268.

If you want to apply, these are the guidelines you have to meet:

Must be at least 18 years of age.
High School diploma or GED.
Applicants are required to have twenty-four (24) post-secondary semester credit hours in any field of study with a minimum of 2.0 GPA, or at least two years of full-time military service with an honorable discharge.
Texas Class “C” driver’s license or equivalent from another state.

There is a written exam, background check, fitness test, interview, and other testing that applicants have to pass.
