Ted Cruz was supposed to be in El Paso for a rally on Friday September 28, but that rally never happened.

Cruz apologized for having to cancel because of the Brett Kavanaugh Senate confirmation hearings and the vote that took place after the contentious and emotional testimony from both Kavanaugh and the woman who accused him of sexually assaulting her, Christine Blasey Ford.

The rally was supposed to be at Sportsmen Elite gun shop on the westside but it was cancelled at the last minute because Cruz sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee that was holding the hearings ahead of a full Senate vote on Kavanaugh.

Yesterday on the El Paso for Beto Facebook page, a post showing the notification that the Cruz rally has been rescheduled was published. The notification thanked the person for RSVPing to the original rally and let them know about the rescheduled rally at at Franklin High School on Saturday night, October 13, from 8:30 – 10 p.m. The notification was screenshotted from a facebook notification to a person who had gotten tickets to the rally at Sportsmen elite. There is no mention of the rally on the Ted Cruz page, and the only mention on the El Paso Republican Party page is a notification that the September rally had been cancelled and the October 13 date as the new rally date.

There was a lot of back and forth on the page about whether it was appropriate or legal for the rally to be hosted at Franklin, but I spoke with EPISD trustee Susie Byrd Tuesday night and she said that the district is not hosting the rally. She said groups can rent district facilities per their community use policy and political rallies are not prohibited. Byrd went on to say that even though the Cruz campaign followed the rules for renting out Franklin High School, "it is a bummer" that the rally is happening at Franklin.

Beto O'Rourke has held town halls at El Paso schools this election cycle, but did not campaign and only took questions about the topic of the town hall.
